Katherine Irene Duncan Saylor LAYTONa"Katherine (Irene) Duncan Saylor, beloved mother and grandmother passed away October 17, 2001 in Layton, Utah at the age of 95, due to incidents of age. She was born August 26, 1906 in Casper, Wyoming, a daughter of John and Emma Biggs Duncan. She married Albert (Roy) Saylor, March 30, 1923 in Casper, Wyoming. She spent most of her years in Casper, Wyoming, having lived in South Dakota; Artesia, New Mexico; Seattle, Washington and Nevada at different times in her life. She moved to Layton, Utah in November of 1977. She was a member of the Layton 13th Ward. Her first place of employment at a young age was with the Telephone Company in Casper. She later run a cookhouse at the Bessmer Oil Camp. Irene also worked at various grocery stores as a grocery clerk. She was an excellent homemaker and a great cook. Her outstanding qualities were her quick wit, her ability to share with others and her love of family members. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great and great-great grandchildren and always loved visiting with them. She was a wonderful grandmother, playing games, reading, having tea parties, and makeup playtime of grocery store or post office when the children were little. She was a member of the Casper's Rebekahs Lodge #139 and she was also a member of the Natrona County Pioneers of Wyoming. She remembered watching the last wagon train leave Casper for Oregon, watching the Indians following the wagon train as it left. She was a very young girl at the time. Irene is survived by her daughter, Viola and husband Lynn Miller, Layton, Utah; a brother, Roy Duncan, Casper, Wyoming; a son-in-law Kenneth W. and wife Mary Bretey, Grandby, Colorado; grandsons David A. Bretey; Casper, Wyoming; Wade R. and his wife Linda Bretey, Grand Junction, Colorado; Steven R. Sims, Layton, Utah; and granddaughters, Anne Smith, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lora and her husband Mike Johnson, Preston, Idaho; Karen and husband Thad Green, Layton, Utah; Wendy Sims, Riverdale, Utah; and six great grandsons and seven great granddaughters, and six great-great grandsons, and four great-great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert (Roy); a daughter, Alberta L.
