During the glory of sunrise on February 3rd, 2013, Kathryn Jayne Hadley Ballingham, 40, ran into the arms of her beloved Grandpa, whom she was certain would greet her on the other side, after her earthly trial with breast cancer.

Katie was born in Garmisch, Germany, on January 25, 1973, to Stephen and Anne Hadley. As the middle child she quickly became the magnetic core of the family.

While growing up in a close-knit North Ogden neighborhood, Katie organized s'more roasts, trampoline back-flip training, and summer night games. To her friends, she was a loyal cheerleader, a gift from God. Katie's strong legs won many a soccer match, her competitive will and supreme skill leaving the field an open canvas. While attending Weber High School (89-91) she shared her vocal talent and built dear friendships singing in "A Cappella."

She continued her education at Snow College (91-92), graduating from Weber State in 2002 with a BS in Health Promotion and Nutrition. For many years she worked as a dental assistant for her dad, her laugh echoing into the waiting room as she responded to his jokes. She craved knowledge of healthy living and shared her tips with those in her path.

Her husband, DJ, was her forever companion, confidante, and champion. They've shared in thousands of adventures, laughs, smiles, kisses, and tears during their eternal marriage, which started on August 6, 1998, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they lived in Oregon and Ohio before settling with their family in the welcoming community of Garden City, UT.

Each night before tucking her children into bed, Katie would sing, "I am a Child of God," in Japanesea"a language she learned on her mission to Kobe, Japan. Katie is the mother of five beautiful children: Jackson, 13, her handsome, righteous, and kind oldest son; Justice, 9, whose valiant heart and smile lit up her world; Sam, 6, full of love for others and wonder at the magnificence of life, with the courage to always do what is right; Annie, 3, with her sweet, tender hugs and Christ-like love; and Seth, 2, the entertainer, whose contagious laugh always uplifts others and makes them feel his love for them. She told each child often how much she loved them, covering them in affection and showering them in encouragement. Her protective motherly wings will continue to watch over them as they grow.

Throughout her life, she was a beacon of faith, steadfast for all to see. Even in her last great trial, she met everybody with a smile and words of inspiration. Serving in many callings of influence in the LDS Church, her quest was to be a righteous example. Her kindness, listening ear, and testimony brought many to the comforts and peace of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She was especially close to her mother. Together they shared a priceless bond of triumph and test. She loved being with her siblings and gravitated toward her childhood home often. Card games, skiing, canning, shopping, all-night talking sessions, laughing, baking, riding bikes, and listening to conference (while eating traditional German food), were just a few of the activities they shared together. During her time of need, Katie's siblings and parents bonded in unmatched unity and elevated her situation by serving her daily.

Katie's motto was "make each moment count," and she did just that all the days of her life. Her soul thrived on music, her legs on movement. Katie danced in the rain, below disco balls, on the beach, in her pink coat, and into our heartsa"and there we will keep her memory and legacy moving forward until we see her smile again.

The family would wish to thank the many doctors, nurses, family, and friends that attended to Katie during the past 15 months.

Katie is survived by her husband, David Jay Ballingham, her children, Jackson David, Justice Lloyd Taylor, Samuel Jay, Annie Jayne, and Seth Stephen, her parents Stephen and Anne Hadley, three sisters, Heidi (Todd) Haggard, Julie (Chris) Henley, Becki (Gary) Westergard, her favorite brother, David (Elise), and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, and friends.
