Kendall R. Peterson
OGDEN - Kendall R. Peterson, 87, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 in Ogden, Utah.
He was born November 4, 1915, in Glencoe, Wyoming, the second child born to Jesse Y. and Martha Purdy Peterson. Kendall married Violet Clark Peterson on February 7, 1942, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 13, 1942. After 61 years of marriage, Violet preceded him in death on May 26, 2003.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in 1952. In 1963, he earned his Master of Science degree in Elementary School Administration from Utah State University. Kendall worked in Diamondville and Kemmerer, Wyoming as a teacher, school principal, and curriculum coordinator. During his teaching career, he influenced many young people in a positive way. He was a role model and mentor, in addition to teacher.
Kendall was a faithful, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many capacities through the years. He loved to give talks in church, and desired that his chosen topics would be of benefit to those listening. His most significant missionary accomplishment was when he baptized his future wife, Violet, on December 10, 1938.
Kendall was blessed with a beautiful singing voice, and he shared that talent at every opportunity that he had. He believed that since he was blessed with this talent, it was his responsibility to accept whenever he was asked to sing. When he and Violet moved to Ogden, he joined the Men of Song, a singing group that came to include some of his very best friends.
He was extremely well-read. He always had at least one book which he was in the process of reading. He always said that thick books were the best books, and he usually felt sad upon completing a book he particularly liked.
He taught his children well and was a wonderful example of husband and father. He dearly loved his sweet wife, Violet, and couldn't bear to be on this earth without her.
Kendall leaves behind three daughters and their husbands, Dent and Kathy Mason of S. Ogden; Evan and Patricia Thorley of Billings, Montana; and Larry and Ann Saslaw of Bakersfield, California. He has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, John (Cleo) Peterson and Dean (Mimi) Peterson, and two sisters, J. Joyce Peterson and Mary Groutage.
The family wishes to thank the Emeritus Estates staff for the kindness, care, and love they always gave to Kendall. We are also grateful to Utah Heritage Hospice for their kind and gentle care of our father.
