Kenneth Brown Despain

PLEASANT VIEW - Kenneth Brown Despain, 81, died October 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, in Ogden. He was born July 12, 1927 in Lehi, Utah the son of Myrol Augustus (Bert) and Ruby Christie Brown Despain. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Ken married Barbara Ann Burns July 31, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple; they recently celebrated their 55th anniversary.

He graduated from Utah State University School of Engineering in 1962. He then began his teaching career at Mt. Ogden Jr. High School; retiring in 1989. He was president of the Ogden Education Association and served two terms on the Utah Education Association Board of Trustees. He was a life long advocate for teachers and loved community service.

Ken served for 20 years in the C.B.'s (Construction Battalion) and U.S. Naval Reserve.

He was an active member of the Pleasant View LDS 9th Ward; where he served as a high priest.

Ken was totally involved in sports, coaching and refereeing and was an avid hunter. He was an accomplished woodworker. He especially loved golfing at The Barn with his golfing buddies.

Ken is survived by his wife Barbara; children Becky (Wayne) Thompson, Rich (Peggy) Despain, Rob (Pam) Despain; nine grandchildren Trisha (Michael) McFarland, Michelle Thompson, Ryan, Allison, Logan, Nicklaus, Austin, Mitchell, Madison Despain; two great-grandchildren McKenzie and Gage McFarland. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law Carole and Jack Major and a sister-in-law Shirley Burns Heppler.

Services will be held Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant View 9th Ward Chapel, 250 West Elberta Drive. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden and Saturday at the church prior to the service from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
