Laree Best West Obituary (1939 - 2018)

02/12/1939 - 01/28/2018 Click here to listen to the funeral recording. Our loving mother and grandmother passed away surrounded by family January 28, 2018. LaRee Brown Best West was born February 12, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Richard & Yvonne Best. She was raised in Farr West, among family and friends, where she learned to garden and spent time working outside. She excelled in sewing and cooking at an early age. She was talented in many areas receiving numerous awards and accolades. She attended Weber College where she met her eternal companion, Clair Edward West. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 18, 1960 for time and all eternity. Together they raised four beautiful children, three girls and one boy. Despite being a full time teacher, she raised her children in a warm loving environment. Spending time with her children was a priority, she taught them to cook, sew, garden and many other things. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in teaching from Weber State College in 1967. She taught several grades, but found her niche in 6th grade. Her students loved her and enjoyed the added skills she taught them using her great talent in art & music. After many years of teaching she received her Master's Degree in 1996. She was a devoted member of the Latter- Day Saint faith her entire life. During her lifetime she diligently fulfilled many callings. Her faith allowed her to touch many lives and her life was enriched because of it. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Matthew Clair West), sister (Ramona Humpherys), and grandson (Miles Vigil). She is survived by her daughters, Kelley Dodge, Melanie Vigil (Mark), Camille Filiaga (John); ten grandchildren, Awnaliese Amos (Dan), Alexandria Bunot (Brock), Morgan Tondevold (Brendan), Montana Vigil, Manaia Filiaga, Joseph Vigil, Samantha Filiaga, Malakai Filiaga, Matthew Vigil, Mariah Vigil; and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Betty Allred, Richard Best, Lou Best and Annette Van Dyke. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many neighbors and friends that took time to visit and care for LaRee. We would also like to acknowledge the staff of Encompass who became family themselves over the past few years. Services will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden. Friends and family may pay their respects at the viewing Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. and again on Saturday, February 3, from 9:00 to 9:45a.m. The family invites people to honor her memory by attending funeral services held Saturday, February 3, at 10:00a.m. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery.
