Laren Demaur "Bud" Balls Obituary (1931 - 2017)

L. DeMaur Balls Laren DeMaur "Bud" Balls (85) passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in Brigham City, Utah. DeMaur was born in Hyde Park, Utah on November 6, 1931 a son to Mabel Irene McBride and Laren William Balls. He graduated from Box Elder High School and went on to the University of Utah and earned his Bachelors of Science in Engineering. DeMaur served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Mary Sherlene Wight on November 1, 1956 in Brigham City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. DeMaur served as a Bishop and in the High Counsel. He loved working in the Boy Scouts and was proud to have received the Silver Beaver Award. DeMaur enjoyed Mountain Man Rendezvous and spending time outdoors; he often said he was born in the wrong generation and that he should have been born 100 years earlier. DeMaur loved working with his hands; especially doing carpentry and gardening. His biggest focus was his family, raising two grandsons, and currently devoting himself to his great-grandchildren. Surviving are his sweetheart Sherlene, children: Sherilyn (Richard) Archuleta of Ogden, Kenneth Balls and Gary Balls of Brigham City, five grandchildren: Andrew, Jayson, John Paul, Trever, and Nicholas, and five great-grandchildren with one on the way. Also siblings: Don (Claire) Balls and Carol Ann (John) Gunderson. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Faye Sears, and mother-in-law Virginia May Wight. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Brigham City 8th Ward Chapel, 139 E. 300 N., Brigham City. Viewings will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded. Special thanks to the Brigham City 8th Ward for all their love and care.
