Larry G. Obray Obituary (1939 - 2017)

Larry G. Obray Click here to listen to the funeral recording. Larry G. Obray, 77, died peacefully at home as a result of cardiovascular disease on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Larry was born to Clifford and Jean Obray in Paradise, Utah on November 9, 1939 and was the sixth of seven children. Paradise was a small town in the 1950s, and as a teenager Larry frequently discovered opportunities for mischief, practical jokes, and trouble. Because of this pattern of behavior, he and his best friend were awarded their diplomas from South Cache High School well before the end of their senior year in 1958 and were asked not to return. That same year Larry was introduced to Vicki Nelson on a blind date. They were married in 1960 and later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. During their almost 57 years of marriage, Larry and Vicki became the parents to seven sons. Larry spent his entire life raising and mentoring his sons and other young men. All of the sons at some point worked in the family drywall business where Larry taught his sons the importance of hard work, integrity, and reputation. The family enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, and many other outdoor activities together. Larry had the ability to make people laugh, and through good jokes, stories, and laughter he developed lasting friendships with everyone he met. The adjective "good" with reference to his jokes does not imply that the jokes were always appropriate. He maintained his sense of humor, wit, and ability to make people feel comfortable through his final day. From a young age, Larry was known for his ability to fix about everything. He loved to rebuild cars. Up until just weeks before his passing, he spent hours working in his shop rebuilding a 1956 Ford truck as his final project. Larry worked for years in the Young Men's organization in his LDS wards and made a lasting impact on a countless number of young men. Larry is survived by his wife, Vicki, his sons Jeff (Tammie), Mike, Bob (Jen), Matt (Jessica), Dustin, and Jed, eleven grandchildren, a great grandson, two brothers, and a sister. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin, and three siblings. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the No. Ogden 23rd Ward, 787 E. 1700 N., No. Ogden UT. A public viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah, Friday, June 16th, from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
