Laurine W. Roberts Obituary (1920 - 2006)

Our sweet loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, "Rennie" peacefully left this mortal life on July 14, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Jan. She was born November 8, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Willard Joseph and Pearl Edith West Wilde. She graduated from the University of Idaho where she received her degree in education. She was raised in Moscow, Idaho where her father was a professor and Dean of the Economics Department. Education was a very important part of their family's life. Rennie was a master at teaching and exemplified her skill while mentoring numerous student teachers. She also held many various positions on the Weber School District Board. She valued education and continued pursuing courses of study at BYU and University of Utah. She taught school for 31 years in Roy, Riverdale, North Ogden and Plain City. She married Donald L. Durrant in 1943. They had two daughters, Jan and Janeen. They later divorced. She married Joseph V. Roberts in 1952, they had one daughter, Michelle. They were later divorced. During her married life she built seven homes. She used her artistic talent inside and outside the homes, which were beautiful and immaculate. She loved beautiful and well-kept things and this carried through in every area of her life. She spent the last ten years in Westwood Village Adult Community where she loved her many friends and loving neighbors who always took special care of her. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in several different capacities. Rennie thoroughly enjoyed serving as the stake and ward drama leader and speech director. She wrote many plays and roadshows and gave many readings throughout Ogden and the Salt Lake area. She served as mission district secretary in the Northwest States Mission, which she loved dearly. Rennie was a devoted mother and grandmother and instilled many values and principles to those she came in contact with. Mother was extremely self-disciplined and exacting and practiced what she preached. She was compassionate, charitable and was willing to help those in need. We will Miss Rennie's vitality, spunkiness, humor and her zest for life. She is survived by her children; Jan (Marv) Shaw, North Ogden; Janeen (Morris) Parry, Pleasant View; Michelle (Vearl) Thompson, Motley, Minnesota; one sister, JoAnn (Bill) Marineau, Spokane, WA; one brother, Thomas J. (Denny) Wilde, Redmond, OR; sister-in-law Beulah (Roland) Wilde, Walnut Creek, CA; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Lucille; brothers Spencer, Grant, Dean and Roland.
