LaVaun Hansen

–

Ogden, Utah

RIVERDALE. Our loving mother and grandmother, LaVaun Kunz Hansen, finished her mortal journey surrounded by her family to join her loving husband, parents, 7 brothers and sisters, son-in-law, granddaughter, and great-grandson in a sweet reunion on the other side of the veil, Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
LaVaun was born the 5th of 13 children to Parley Peter Kunz and Hilda Irene Stoor on May 16, 1927, in Bern, Idaho. She grew up in a big loving family, with parents that she adored, and honored, and truly lived by the scripture in Exodus, "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long." And so, she was blessed with over 97 years of a life filled with service, kindness, and love and gratitude.
Her life was spent in service to God, family, and others. From helping her mother and father on their family farm in Idaho, living with a widowed sister caring for her young nieces, to caring for her own family as it grew to over 75 individuals. Whether it was holidays, birthdays, Sunday dinners, etc., she was always prepared to feed a crowd, share a candy or a soda, and especially a piece of cheese.
After graduating from Montpelier High School, she met and fell in love with her eternal companion LaVarr Morrie Hansen of Garden City, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 4, 1946. Up to the day of her passing she told everyone how he loved and cared for her and would give her a little pat each night when they went to bed.
LaVaun worked at the IRS but spent most of her life in service to others. She knit hundreds if not thousands of small wash cloths that were given as gifts for every occasion, and to every person she met. LaVaun was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings in the church and loved to listen to and sing in choirs. As she got older, she continued to serve by crocheting alter cloths for temples all over the world, and by indexing over a hundred thousand genealogical records to help others with their family history work. She was a covenant, dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, and had a strong testimony of Heavenly Father's plan of happiness.
LaVaun was known for her love and dedication to her "Mama and Papa," as well as for her siblings and their spouses. Most of all she loved to be a mother and grandmother, and was especially happy to become a great grandmother and great great grandmother. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally and loved to share their many achievements and life milestones with everyone she spoke with.
Surviving LaVaun are her children; son Larry (Melanie), Riverdale; daughter LaRena (Lee, deceased) Folkman, Farr West; son LaMont (Leslie), Brigham City; 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Also surviving her are her younger brothers, Dale Kunz, Phillip Kunz, Richard Kunz, Arthur Kunz, sister Eva Berry, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members and cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverdale 1st Ward Chapel, 1000 West 4400 South. Her family will meet with friends on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Myer's Roy Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W, and Monday, August 19, 2024 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., at the church.
