Lavon Agnes Pippin Allen Obituary (1918 - 2015)

Lavon P. Allen August 22, 1918 - August 28, 2015 LaVon was born 97 years ago in Sunset, Utah to John T. and Zella Pippin. Seventy-Six years ago she met and married the man she would call her sweetheart, Joseph Ray Allen, and held his hand and heart until his passing last May. Today they are reunited. Her life story is a celebration of good times spent with family and friends through decades of laughter, and a few tears, but always surrounded by those who loved her. She was a prankster, and loved jumping out of closets or around corners to surprise an unsuspecting family member, but Dad was more often than not her prey. She would leave notes in his lunch pail during their early years, and later around the house reminding him that he was loved, as though he could ever forget. Feisty is a word easily applied to Mom; she would not hesitate to write a letter to a senator to let him know he was derelict in his responsibilities, or stand up and speak her mind when she felt the need to do so. She passed on that fire and passion, as well as an evolved sense of whimsy, to her daughters, and we've all had moments where we've praised the genetic marker, and also questioned that "gift". Bless you Mother, you'll never be forgotten by us. Her life was full of activities including ballroom dancing with her life-time partner, camping in their motor home with good friends, golfing, bowling, water-skiing, bridge, clogging, and multiples crafts and hobbies. She was an avid reader and dabbled in writing poetry, and drawing cartoon characters. The bonds created with her bridge group endured for decades through personal losses and changing times, but held everlasting friendships that were deeply important to her. She was a good friend to those fortunate to have known her. Each of her grandchildren has memories of grandma challenging them to a foot race when they made the mistake of calling her old, and in most cases, she proved her point. She loved those kids, enjoyed watching them grow, felt angst with their challenges, and held high hope for their futures. She will be treasured for her contribution to their lives. We daughters will privately smile forever in memory of mother's first introduction to the great paintings and sculpture in the Louvre while on a family visit to Paris. Her enthusiasm for art grew exponentially on that trip, and we stored up enough laughter and good times for a lifetime. She was a joy as a travel companion, always eager for the next experience, and never tiring. Thanks for great memories, Mom. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Robert Elbrader, Connie and Cass Bettinger, and Jann and Scott Peterson, her grandchildren David Elbrader, John Elbrader, Steve Robinson, Jason Shulz, and Jennifer Schoenhoft, her brother, Jack Pippin, and her sister-in-law, Donna Carver. In addition she has 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren that will all miss Granny-Goose. We extend a special thank you to the healthcare providers at Stoney Brooke and Country Pines Memory Unit. Dr. Law, Autum, and Michelle at SYMBII gave much needed support and compassion to our family through the difficult hospice journey. May your spirit soar freely Mom, we love you.
