Lawaine Deloy Blotter
February 4, 1934 - May 3, 2011
Surrounded by his children, Lawaine Deloy Blotter passed away on Tuesday, May 3 at the age of 77 after a series of health challenges. He was born and raised in Logan Utah, graduating from Logan High School and Utah State University. He lived around the country during his military service as a United States Air Force pilot in the Korean War, including assignments in Alaska, Georgia, and Wyoming. After leaving the military, he established his home in Ogden. Even as a civilian, he maintained a love of aviation and held a private pilot's license for many years.
He chose a career in education, teaching building trades at the Utah State Industrial School and later at the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College. At his core he was a craftsman, with a passion for creating things with his own hands. His diverse building projects included an experimental amphibious aircraft, a waterskiing boat, two different sailboats, and several car restorations. A strong perfectionist streak sometimes kept his projects from reaching full completion. He was also a master builder skilled in plumbing, electrical wiring, carpentry, and cabinet-making. Many beautiful kitchens, bathrooms and home remodels remain as evidence of his talents.
He served as a volunteer in the Big Brother program and Boy Scouting. Perhaps his greatest impact was from seven years as Scoutmaster where he ushered many boys through the rank of Eagle Scout and led countess adventures. His former Scouts still describe those memories with fondness. He was a lover of the outdoors, and his interests included camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, four-wheeling, and ATV excursions. He was romantic about sailing.
On December 16, 2010, a kitchen fire destroyed his home in Ogden. A prolonged hospitalization followed.
He married several times and was the father of four children. Preceded in death by son Jeffrey Paul. Survived by children Gregory Todd (Laura) of Mountain View, California, Zachary Kirk of Ogden, and Emma-Lee Ruth Hoganson of Los Angeles, California. Also survived by his sister Norma Blotter Mees of Austin, Texas.
Family will greet friends on Thursday May 5, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd in Ogden. Graveside Service will be on Friday May 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blotter family plot at the Logan City Cemetery.
