Lawrence Wilbur Gardiner

Kaysville, UT

Kaysville - Lawrence (Larry) Wilbur Gardiner, 78, passed away at his home on December 4, 2013.
He was born in Ogden to Bert and Lorna Gardiner, the fifth of five children.
Larry grew up in both the Ogden Valley and Ogden City, where he graduated from Ogden High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for the greater part of his service.

On October 24, 1957, he married Carol Jean Goodell of Willard, Utah, in the Logan Utah Temple. They moved to Kaysville in 1959, where they have lived ever since, and where they raised their three children. His work ethic was admirable, and he provided well for his family through his employment, most notably with American Greetings for 48 years, where he was engaged primarily as a Sales Representative.

He was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He cherished the opportunity to serve others, whether it be as a home teacher, or in one of his various callings over the years. Larry and Carol had served together in the Bountiful Utah Temple, as well as on a physical facilities mission in the Kaysville area. Larry very much believed that it was important to take care of the church buildings, and selflessly served for many years helping to ensure that the local buildings were clean and beautiful both inside and out.
Some of his favorite things included Harmon's fried chicken, root beer, the way it used to be from an A&W restaurant, and ice cream. He loved tractors and trains; this great country and the principles that it was founded upon and the American flag. He enjoyed Christmas; the decorations and the music; and he even played Santa Claus at a number of Christmas parties over the years. Additionally, Larry and Carol enjoyed camping and participated in a number of travel trailer clubs. They even organized and helped stage an international trailer rally in Logan, Utah in 1975. Larry loved working in his yard and garden and preferred being outside to being inside. He appreciated a weed-free yard and a freshly mowed lawn, and when his work was done, he enjoyed relaxing in his breeze way.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, and children, Vaughn (Lori) Gardiner of Layton, Utah; Cheryl (Del) Satterthwaite of Fruit Heights, Utah; and Chris (Karen) Gardiner of North Ogden, Utah; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Bob (Irene) of Ogden, Utah; and Don (Anna Beth) of Lakewood, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, who he looked forward to being reunited with after this life, as well as a brother, Les, and sister, Bonnie, and his friends Chinook, Oscar and Puff.

He frequently expressed appreciation and admiration for friends, neighbors, those that he served with, and those who have helped him; especially over the past few years. Larry and his family are extremely grateful for those medical professionals who have been so dedicated and served for so long on his behalf. The quality of their care and the friendship that they have provided has been priceless, and are greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville 4th Ward Chapel located at 875 East 200 North in Kaysville, with family visiting with friends and neighbors from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Following the services, interment will be held at the Kaysville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Larry Gardiner fund for families in need at Christmas. Donations can be made at any America First Credit Union Branch.
