Leland "Lee" Harvey Vansweden Obituary (1925 - 2020)

Lee H. VanSweden, 95, of Pleasant View, UT, died on Friday, December 18, 2020, due to incidence of age at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 14, 1925 in Ogden, UT to Carl and Hendrina (Rena) VanZweden. He had 7 siblings. He married Portia Chidester on September 14, 1951 in Clearfield, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Lee was educated in Ogden, graduating from Weber Academy. He served in the Navy on a ship during WWII where he was wounded from shrapnel. He was first a first a Fireman and then an Engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Retiring in 1983. Lee loved traveling all over the world. His favorite places were Canada, Hawaii and Holland where his parents were born. He is survived by 5 children. Kristina VanSweden, Ron (Kimberly) VanSweden Karen Ward, Teresa (Keith) Hanson and James VanSweden. He had 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, 2 children, John and Maria and 1 daughter in law, Kimberly Wilde VanSweden and his favorite pets, Sammy, Scuffy and Fritz. Due to Covid-19, Lee will have a private viewing on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Myers Mortuary in Ogden. He will then have a private graveside service at the Ogden Cemetery.
