Lenona Edgley Hawkes Obituary (1932 - 2016)

Lenona Edgley Hawkes recording. Lenona Edgley Hawkes, 84, passed away June 16, 2016, in Ogden of complications incident to age. She was born in Preston, ID, on February 26, 1932, to Phenoi H. Edgley and Ona Crockett. She was the oldest of five children. She married her childhood sweetheart, Grant Rogers Hawkes, September 10, 1951, in the Logan Utah Temple. Their loved blossomed from an early age. Lenona graduated from Preston High School and attended BYU as a music major. She was active for many years in the music community of Ogden and was employed as a secretary in the Ogden City School District for 22 years. She was invited to sing at the national 4-H convention in Chicago, IL, as a senior in high school and was voted the most outstanding vocalist in the state of Idaho the same year. She served in many of the auxiliaries in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She particularly loved serving in the Stake Relief Society and as a Stake Cultural Arts Specialist in the Ogden, Utah, Lorin Farr and Canyon View Stakes. She served two full-time missions with her husband, Salt Lake Temple Square Mission and a Church Education Mission to the Marshall Islands. She also served as a Church Service missionary on Temple Square for many years. Lenona is survived by her husband and six children: Karren (Rex) Hayes, David (Pam) Hawkes, Allyson (Rick) Law, Jeff (Giselle) Hawkes, Sandy (Bob) Kariya, and Lance (Arieta) Hawkes; 23 grandchildren, and an ever increasing number of great grandchildren; her brother, Richard C. (Pauline) Edgley, and three sisters, Evelyn (Stanton) Nuffer, Kathy (Stan) Fellows, and Marcia (Ben) Packer. She was preceded in death by a grandson. She spent her life serving others, which was one of her greatest delights, and was loved by everyone she touched. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Rock Cliff First Ward, 1000 Suncrest, Ogden. A viewing will be held on Monday June 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and at the church prior to the service from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Interment in Preston Idaho Cemetery.
