Leon Gordon
BRIGHAM CITY - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother uncle, and friend, Leon Gordon, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 11, 2014.
He was born on March 11 1925, in Orem, Utah, the son of Leon and Ethel Gordon. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. On May 28, 1943, Leon married the love of his life, Leona Jane Thacker for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City temple. They celebrated 71 years of marriage this spring.
Leon served his country in the navy during World War II on the island of Wallis, in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. He was proud of his service to his country and was honored to be a veteran.
After his navy service, he began work at Utah Power and Light in Orem, Utah. Leon worked in Castle Gate, Kemmerer, Wyoming, and Salt Lake City. Leon was hard-working and valued his job. He started as an office clerk and worked his way to plant manager in Kemmerer, Wyoming. His last year was spent in Salt Lake City working on special projects for the Power Company. He retired after 40 years of service.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leon served in many callings and had the opportunity to be a temple worker at the Provo temple.
Leon took great pride in his work. He loved to tinker in his shop, and he had the ability to fix anything and everything. He enjoyed camping and hunting in the mountains, where he bagged a record bull moose that held in the record books of Wyoming for years. He also enjoyed motorcycling, and his sweet, little dog Tia.
Leon will be remembered for the great care he gave his wife. He made certain she flourished. Even in the end, he hung on as long as he could to be certain she would be loved and cared for in the fashion he had always shown her.
The family would like to give special thanks to Jody Jones and staff of Integrity Home Health and Hospice and also to Meyers Mortuaries.
Leon is survived by his wife of 71 years, Leona Gordon; three children, Karol (Robert) Clarke; Leslie Christiansen (Kim); and Kevin (Kris) Gordon; daughter-in-law JoCeil Gordon; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. We love you, Dad.
He was preceded in death by his son Lynn; daughter, Dalene; his parents, one brother and two sisters.
