"On June 12, 2014 I left this earthly life, after an 11 month long hard fight against pancreatic cancer, surrounded with love by my immediate family. I was born December 6, 1962 to Ernesto Valdez and Maria Elisa Aurora Dominguez, who raised me in Ogden, Utah.

I met my sweetheart Paul McFarlane in the summer of 1977, when I was 14 and he was 16. We were married February 6, 1981. Paul baptized me on April 25, 1981 and we were sealed in the Ogden Temple on May 1, 1982. I have four children: Brian (Leandra), Samuel (Nicole), Shari (Paul) Evans & Marie (Kagen) Wilkinson. I have five grandchildren: Brilee, Ryder, Audrey, Jacob & Duncan. My sons served missions in Texas and Austria-Germany. All of my children were married in the temple. I am so proud of all of them. I love each of them with all of my heart and have made them and Paul the center my life. Our time as a family has been priceless. Traveling with them is my favorite thing to do, and our favorite place is Yellowstone, where Paul and I have spent the last eight Memorial Day weekends. I am so thankful for all that my Heavenly Father has blessed me with.

I graduated from Ogden High School in 1981. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Jackson Ward. I have served as a den leader, a counselor in two Primary presidencies, Nursery leader and Primary teacher. I worked 18 years for the Ogden City School District as a substitute teacher and staff assistant. I enjoyed everyone I worked with, both at church and school. I am a C.E.R.T. trained volunteer.

I am survived by my husband, four children and five grandchildren, as well as my brother David Garcia and sisters: Jeanette Garcia, Gloria (Ron) Harris, Lydia (Lupe) Martinez, Marion Garcia, CG Laird, Abbie Nelson, Margaret Sutherland, and Angelina Sotelo. I am preceded in death by my grandparents, mother and brother Lloyd Garcia."

Brenda is greatly loved by all who know her. She has been the happiest person anyone could know. Her life was never about her, but those that she loved and served. Her grandchildren were the center of her attention. She will be forever in the thoughts and memories of her family. Paul expresses his love to his Bride, she will be forever by his side.

Services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11 AM, at the Jackson Ward, 26th & Jackson Ave, with a viewing prior, 9:45 to 10:40 a.m., a viewing will also be held Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 6-8 p.m., at the church. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery.

Special thanks to LCG Facades owners and employees for all of their support. Also, thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and IHC Hospice, especially Nurse Julie, for all the compassionate care they gave her.
