Lydia Griffiths Benson

Lydia Adline Griffiths Benson passed away on 19 August 2002, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born 10 February 1924 at Clarkston, Cache, Utah. She was the first daughter and third child of Andrew Heggie and L. Adline Godfrey Griffiths.

She received her education in the Cache County schools, graduating from LDS Seminary and North Cache High School. Lydia married E. Neal Benson on 7 April 1943, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Newton, Utah until 1973. They then moved to Pleasant View, Utah, where Lydia was residing at the time of death.

They were the parents of six children, Steven (Barbara) Benson of Smithfield, Utah; John R. Benson of Kaysville, Utah; Fayone (Fred) Rigby of Logan, Utah; Wayne (Nyla) Benson of Smithfield, Utah; Blake (Valerie) Benson of Farr West, Utah; Francine (Max) Polson of Farr West, Utah. Lydia's children and their families were her first love and concern.

She served in church auxiliaries in the Newton ward, Smithfield Stake, and Pleasant View, some of which were as follows: Stake missionary, Spanish Name Extractor, and visiting teacher. She served an LDS Mission to Louisiana Baton Rouge, served a mission on Temple Square, and also at Member Locator. She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, where she served in her camp and company. She had a great love for her Church and Country.

She is survived by her six children and their companions, 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Four brothers and five sisters, Lowell (Helen) Griffiths, Weldon (Ivean) Griffiths, Asael (Pauline) Griffiths, DeMarr (Marilyn) Griffiths, Theo (Lee) Buttars, VaLoice Griffiths, Sadie (Earl) Hatch, Phyllis (Halvey - deceased) Griffin, Veda (Dale - deceased) Hadley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Neal and her parents.
