Mabel Bloham Obituary (1933 - 2024)

Mabel Ann Dastrup Bloxham passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on January 21, 2024, at the age of 90. Those who knew Ann would agree that she was an elect lady--one of the kindest, gentlest, and most caring individuals around. What she loved most was being with her family. Whether shopping, attending games, plays, performances, birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, or the famous Sunday dinners that she and her late husband hosted week after week, decade after decade, wherever family was gathered is where Ann wanted to be. The Sunday dinners were the stuff of legend: food was plentiful, all were invited, and Ann, ever the hostess, was always the very last to partake, ensuring all were fed and satisfied. Born and raised in Salina, Sevier County to John Dastrup and Clara Draper, Ann had fond memories of her rural Utah upbringing. She moved north and eventually met and married her beloved Dee Bloxham on September 24, 1955. It was her red high-heeled shoes that won his heart and Dee and Ann spent the next 65 inseparable years by each other's side. They lived almost their entire lives in Harrisville, where they raised eight children. Ann was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel, her church family, and found great joy in serving many years with the children in primary. She thought of others' needs first and was always an example of Christlike love and service to anyone in her path. Ann was an immensely social individual, ever taking an interest in the successes of those she interacted with. Ann enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friend, tea party luncheon girls, and always sought an occasion for a quick catch-up, a couples' square dance party, or dinner with Dee and their lifelong friends. She loved to conversate and found joy in personal relationships. Ann was very involved with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Ann's heart and soul were affixed to her family. The Standard-Examiner awarded her "Mother of the Year" and even brought a cameraman to the house to take her picture. Not a day went by without a visit or a phone call from those she loved the most. She was fiercely loyal to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and those who knew her best loved her most. She missed her dear departed husband and greatly desired to see him again. The sadness of her passing is swallowed up in the knowledge that Dee and Ann are finally together again. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Dee; her parents John and Clara; and two of her grandchildren, Carson Cassity and Tyler Cassity. She is survived by her eight children: Linda (Michael) Cassity, Curt (Kris) Bloxham, Drew (Kathryn) Bloxham, Jeff (Kit) Bloxham, Shane Bloxham, DeeAnn (Dell) Christensen, Shannon (Charles) Olesen, and Shelby (Nathan) Taylor; and her brother Paul Dastrup, also 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express its love and gratitude to Shane for his decade's worth of caregiving to both Ann and Dee, allowing both to stay at home. We love and appreciate you! A public viewing and memorial will be held in Ann's honor on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 12:30 p.m.to 1:40 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe, Ogden, Utah.
