Manuel Garcia Loyola
SUNSET - Manuel Garcia Loyola passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the George E. Whalen Veteran's Home in Ogden of congestive heart failure.
He was born January 31, 1922 in Los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico to Pedro and Maria Jesus Garcia Loyola.
He came to the United States with his father, mother and sister Cora, when he was five years old.
He briefly worked in the mine in Dividend, Utah as a teenager, graduated from Payson High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in WW II and was assigned to Guam, doing administrative duties. He had a strong desire to succeed, which he did.
He worked at Hill Air Force Base for many years and became the first Chief EEO Officer (Employee Equal Opportunity Officer) at the base and handled many discrimination complaints successfully.
He married Beverly Gorder April 30, 1950; they had two children, Jill and Mark. They later divorced. His constant companion for many years was Mary Elizabeth Cain (Liz); they had lots of fun together and enjoyed many great trips, including England and Mexico. They married August 24, 1996, they were married ten years. Manuel went through many health problems with Liz at his side. They later divorced, but got back together in a few months, when Manuel's health deteriorated and he needed help. Since then Liz has loved him and taken care of him and was with him to the end. Manuel told her she had taught him the meaning of what true love really means.
Manuel loved to go fishing, going to Wendover, metal detecting and hiking in the mountains, around Divided and Eureka where he grew up. His hero was his Grandpa Desiderio Garcia with whom he spent a lot of time as a small child in Mexico. His Grandfather told him to fly high and be strong like an eagle; consequently, Manuel had a great love for eagles.
