Manuel (Manny) Martinez

ROY -- Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on May 5, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital. Manuel was born October 26, 1929 in Madrid, New Mexico, the son of Genaro and Antonia Martinez; he was the fifth child of eight children.

He graduated from Carbon County High School, worked in the coal mines in East Carbon, and later was drafted into the service. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of sergeant. He then moved to Ogden, attended Stevens-Henager's College and graduated with an associates degree in accounting. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, HAFB, Thiokol Corp. and retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1990.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the challenge of stream fishing and also liked to hunt. His hobbies were coin collecting, music, planting and was a fix-it kinda' guy with a wonderful and cheerful sense of humor. "He will be greatly missed by all that knew him."

Manuel married Josephine Torres in 1952 and later divorced. They had one son and three daughters: Jerry (Pauline) Martinez, Dorothy (Randy) Garcia, Marie (Bob) Watson, and Irene (Dave) Sweatland. He later married Gayle Marlow in 1981 and they had one son, Samuel (Monique) Martinez; also three stepchildren, Sherry Parson, Leroy Zimmer, and Jim (Debra) Zimmer. He has 23 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Holy Rosary will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 from 5 to 6:00 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West. Immediately following the rosary there will be a viewing from 6-7:30 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by the combined veteran's group.
