Marilyn Frances Morgan Keller, 81, passed away peacefully in West Haven home Tuesday night, December 13, after a long and determined fight against multiple illnesses, in the company of her children and a valued caretaker.
Marilyn's life was rich, full and varied. She was friend, example and inspiration to those she met and befriended and was particularly devoted to her family by whom she is greatly missed. She showed great grace under pressure, never losing her loving manner, sense of humor, generosity of spirit and optimism about life and people, even as her body succumbed to her afflictions. She always had a kind word for everyone, and was seen as the center and heart of her family by all.
Born in Boulder, Colorado on November 24, 1925 to George B. and Audree Morgan, she moved to Ogden in 1937 where her father was an editor at the Standard-Examiner and a manager at KLO.
A graduate of Ogden High, she married Howard D. Keller in 1943, and they worked together in the farming, ranching, bulldozing and feedlot businesses while raising two children, James H. and Karen M. (Keller) Post. It was not unusual to see Marilyn driving a large truck, or feeding livestock with a pitchfork while still cooking a family meal that evening. The family spent time working on her father-in-law's summer rangeland in Cache County, and at times lived in a sheepherder's wagon in those high Wasatch plains. Later Marilyn and Howard, their children and grandchildren would spend many happy days picnicking, fishing, hunting and playing there.
Marilyn began working at the Dee hospital in the 1950's, retiring in the 1980's as office manager for radiology. She wrote and directed dozens of Road Show plays for her LDS Ward and Stake. She was a junior Sunday school organist and later served as a stake missionary, visiting teacher, Sunday school teacher, Mutual MIA leader and in other positions.
She had articles published, including one in a book about her USO experiences during WWII. An Active member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers, she was a docent at the DUP museum.
She traveled throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Australia, with a deep appreciation of local art, architecture and history, meeting new people and she particularly loved trying new and unusual cuisines. Her personal recipes are in a family cookbook. She read daily for hours, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers and more, especially after her retirement and the loss of her husband in 1994. She was a fan of the Utah Jazz, musical theater, and crossword puzzles.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Vista Care Hospice services who helped Marilyn for so long and the team of CNS's led by Maybi Ramos who were with her round the clock in the last months.
She is survived by her sister, Joan (Morgan) Nelson and brother-in-law, Bob Nelson; Her son, James; daughter, Karen and son-in-law R. Dean Post; four grandchildren (Nanette Lallish, Nikole Smith, Jed Morgan Post and Deana Shiverdecker) and five great-grandchildren.
