Marion Cook Shupe Obituary (1934 - 2017)

Marion Cook Shupe Heaven became a little more spiritual. Marion Cook Shupe, 82, passed away into immortality on Sunday morning, April 9, 2017, at Brookdale North Ogden Memory Care Unit due to the effects of Alzheimer's. She was born in Naples, Utah, on December 2, 1934, the oldest child of Thayrel V and Pearl Merrell Cook. She was educated in Uintah County, Utah, and graduated from Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah in 1952. She continued her education by graduating in 1955 from the Dee Hospital School of Nursing in Ogden, Utah. She practiced her nursing skills in Provo and Ogden, Utah. On Valentine's Day in 1958, she married Lamont Ellis Shupe in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The union was blessed with 6 children; Wayne (Jayne) Shupe, Harrisville, Utah, Lael (Alan) White, Castle Dale, Utah, Wendy (Jay) Turner, Spanish Fork, Utah, Carrie (Joel) Rhoades, Riverdale, Utah, Colleen (Guy) Beazer, Preston, Idaho, and Gordon Shupe, Provo, Utah. She is survived by her husband, 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and a multitude of cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 great-granddaughter. Marion was a devoted disciple of Christ and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lamont and Marion served an LDS mission in the Hamilton New Zealand Temple, and also an inner-city mission in Ogden, Utah, as well as serving as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. She dedicated her life to the betterment of her family and taught them skills to make each person's life better. Her first thought was for the enrichment of people's lives and, despite physical fetters in her later life, expressed the statement: "Life is good." All who knew her loved her for her kindness, charity, and love. She was without guile. Her door was always open to those in need. She was an optimist and looked for the good in all. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale North Ogden and Inspirational Hospice for the excellent care of Marion during her last year and a half of life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association or Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden.
