Marjorie Mortensen Stanford
1926 - 2012
Marjorie Mortensen Stanford, 86, is the mother of eight children, grandmother of 32 and great grandmother of 21. She passed away December 31, 2012.
She spent her life in the service of others.
Marjorie was born June 11, 1926 in Benson Arizona, to James Leo and Martha Maybin Mortensen. She has an older brother, Jim, and younger sister, June. Her childhood was spent on a farm in Thatcher Arizona. She was salutatorian of her graduating class and the student body secretary at Thatcher High School.
She was a Registered Nurse. She entered the cadet nursing program at LDS Hospital where she earned her RN. She then attended BYU where she met her future husband, Stephen S. Stanford. They were married in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple on February 7, 1950.
She fulfilled responsibilities as a wife, mother, nurse and church worker while her husband finished his education. A great cook, teacher and seamstress. She could fix any hurt, whether physical or to the heart. The family's most enthusiastic cheerleader, she attended every recital, ball game or marathon, anything where a family member was involved.
She was famous for her "bottomless" "Winnie the Pooh" cookie jar, full of her amazing cookies. She was happy as a homemaker. She canned fruit, made bread, did ceramics and so much more. She adored all her family.
She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served as the PTA President at Taylor School and as the Regional PTA President. She served two church missions with her husband, in Ogden and in Hawaii.
She used her nursing skills whenever a neighbor needed assistance or just a visit to cheer them. She loved to quilt, and made a quilt for every grandchild when they married, and then baby quilts. She found great joy in serving others throughout her life. Everyone felt her warm spirit and kind heart. She was the best mother in the whole wide world.
