Marjorie Dee Miller McKellar Tanaka passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017, at the home of her son in Plain City, Utah, leaving a big hole in our hearts.
She was born January 28, 1934 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to E. Dee Miller and Gwendolyn Wold Miller.
Marge remembers a happy childhood in Ammon, Idaho. When she was 15 years old her family moved to Tooele, Utah, after her father bought a grocery store there. It was there that she met James E. McKellar. They were married July 11, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. They lived in various places, including Maryland, Alabama, Tooele, Logan, Colorado and Honeyville. Together they had two sons, David M. McKellar and Brian F. McKellar. They later divorced.
Marge married John K. Tanaka in March 24, 1973 in Elko, Nevada. He passed away in January 2011.
One of the highlights of her life was working various jobs at Utah State University, including being a dorm mother, while her first husband was attending college. Later she helped her second husband with his farming business. She also took temporary work making chocolates at the Idle Isle in Brigham City.
She loved to talk on the phone with her friends and family. Marge would do most of the talking while the other person just had to occasionally let her know they were still there.
While she loved her sons and their wives, she lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marge loved family gatherings where she could sit and watch them as they played and argued together.
She is survived by David and Nancy McKellar, Plain City; Brian and Marla McKellar, North Ogden; six grandchildren: Angie (Brian) Tingey, Jason (Jeri Dawn) McKellar; BJ (Nicole) McKellar; Jen (Darwin) Parker; Travis (Crystal) McKellar; Darrin (Kaitlyn) McKellar; and 21 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren: Jacob Vanderhoof, Joel Kennington, Jeremy (Karlee) Jensen and seven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Belva Tarkalson, Anaconda, MT; Joel and Ila Miller, Cove, UT; and Sheryl Watson, Logan, UT.
She was preceded in death by both parents and both husbands.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. John Markeson for many years of care, to her many friends and neighbors who also willingly helped her, and Hospice For Utah, especially Nichole, Debbie and Tammy for their loving and tender care in the last few weeks before her passing. A very heartfelt thanks to her daughter-in-law Nancy who accompanied her to all her doctor visits and was at her side the last five weeks of her life "Treating me like a queen."
In her words, "This getting old is for the birds."
