Mark Hansen

–

North Ogden, Utah

Mark Edward Hansen passed away peacefully after a battle with Parkinson’s at home on September 4, 2025, at the age of 72. He was born on June 15, 1953, at the old Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, to his beloved parents, Wendell and Betty Young Hansen.

Mark was raised in the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which remained the guiding light of his life. He attended Lorrin Farr Elementary, Central Junior High, and graduated from Ogden High School in 1971. During his high school years, he worked at Washington Junior High and, after graduation, began a career in construction with Dickamore Construction.

From August 5, 1972, to August 11, 1974, Mark served faithfully in the Southern States Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, laboring in Georgia and South Carolina. He was proud to be the third generation in his family to serve in that mission, following the example of his parents and grandfather, David Newell. He held the friendships he made close to his heart and stayed connected with many dear companions, including Doug Tidwell, Jay Wardell, and Shane Ure.
After returning from his mission, Mark worked for Wintle Construction and Wade Hurd & Sons Outdoor Sprinkler Company.

On October 28, 1976, he married the beautiful, spiritual, and witty LaDean Memmott, in the Ogden Utah Temple. Mark was forever grateful to have joined the “Great Memmott Family,” whom he cherished deeply. He felt a deep and special bond with his in-laws, whom he considered as brothers and sisters.

During their marriage, Mark dedicated 24 years to Ogden City Corporation’s Water Department, serving as a meter reader, water treatment plant operator, and later as a manager. He achieved the highest Utah State Certifications in both water treatment and distribution (Grade 4). He retired from Ogden City after 30 years of service in 2007, then continued serving the public as an Environmental Scientist III for the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Drinking Water, for another 10½ years. Additionally, he served for 8 years as the Safety Communication Chair for the American Water Works Association.

Mark had a deep love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and found great joy in studying the scriptures and other uplifting books. He enjoyed many hobbies including snow skiing, slalom water skiing, boating, cruising, tennis, basketball, biking, snowmobiling, ATV and UTV riding, and—above all—fishing. He treasured time spent with family and friends, especially at the cabin he built at Bear Lake.

He was passionate about family history and temple work, dedicating countless hours to both. His church service was extensive and heartfelt. He served as a Primary Teacher, Full-Time Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Young Men’s President, Assistant Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader (alongside LaDean), Varsity and Explorer Leader, Temple Preparation Instructor, Elders Quorum Counselor, Stake High Councilor, Stake Mission President as a Stake Seventy, and Church Service Missionary in the Monroe Branch. He also served in five bishoprics, and as the Bishop of the Rushton Heights Ward. Mark loved each member of his ward, always looking out for them in quiet, thoughtful ways. He noticed when someone was missing, remembered the small details, and showed up without being asked.

Mark is survived by his eternal companion, LaDean, and by their eight “choice, beautiful, talented, loving, and supportive” children, 28 grandchildren, and one great grandchild:
• Jonathan and Brittany Hansen (Cameron, Carson, Colton, Cade, Chase)
• Laura and Jeremy Crowton (Taylee and Preston Kammeyer (Hayes), Jocelyn, Nyah, Kelcey)
• Michelle Nelson (Kylie, Tessa, Mallory, Baylor)
• Heidi and Lance Newman (Lucy, Annie, Preston, Jace, Jarrett, Lance Jr.)
• Justin “Bubba” and Traci Hansen (Jedd, Libby)
• Becca and Jason Volberding (Leah)
• Amy and Jake Gull (Krew, Paisley, Caleb, Hattie)
• Aly and Jon Solomon (Linkin)
He deeply loved his siblings and cherished his role as the oldest brother to Marilyn (Brusch), Dave and Pat, Glen and Myrna, Matt, Neil, Paul and Cindy, Julie and Clay (Kirkham), Barbi and Scott (Harrington), and Bill and Tracy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Wendell Hansen; parents-in-law, Ruth and Evan Memmott; and sister, Susan Petersen.

Deepest thanks to Dr. Jason Taylor, the team at Independence Hospice Group, and the incredible nurses—Rachel, Jessee, Jenae, and Hailey. Your care and compassion meant the world.
