BRIGHAM CITY - Martha Alice Whitaker Williams, 96, of Brigham City passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on September 18, 2009.
Martha was born in Snowville, Utah on April 13, 1913 to Zina Persilla Robbins and Harry James Whitaker. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1931. She attended BYU in Provo for a short time.
She married Ralph L. Williams on August 13, 1934. They spent most of their married life in Brigham City. She helped Ralph for many years at the various jobs that he worked; including a dance hall, a bowling alley, and for the Standard Examiner as a distribution manager for northern Utah. She worked sewing at Ogden Knitting, as a clerk at Grant's in SLC, as a grocery clerk for several years in Brigham, and for the Box Elder Board of Education retiring from there. After retirement, she worked for Box Elder County as a secretary. Then Martha and Ralph, not ready to slow down yet, drove the pilot vehicle escorting trailers. This allowed them to travel all over the western states.
Martha loved to bowl, and was on many teams in Brigham City and Ogden. She loved to read, listen to good music, and go for rides in the car with her children. She was very proud of her posterity. She had her wall of fame in her kitchen, hall, and front room.
Martha was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Martha is survived by her four children; Robert (Pat) Williams, Brigham City; Stan (Carol) Williams, Brigham City; Pat Mock, Clearfield; Susan (Michael) Trush, Tremonton; daughter-in-law, Diane Williams, Roy; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and three sisters, one son, Ralph Rex Williams, and one grandson, Brody Williams.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City Cemetery.
