Marveda Maughan East March 21, 1944 - February 7, 2015 Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Marveda Maughan East, a loving wife, caring daughter, good mother and tender friend returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on February 7, 2015. Marveda was born March 21, 1944 in Logan, Cache County, Utah to Roy Howard and Mae Goldie Blaser Maughan. Because she was born on the first day of spring, her mother always said Marveda was the little robin that came into her life. She was born in Logan but never lived there. Marveda lived in Elko, Nevada; Ephraim and Price, Utah, then moved to Ogden when she was twelve. Marveda attended Central and Harding Elementary Schools in Price; Washington and Mount Ogden Junior High in Ogden then graduated from Ogden High School in 1962. She attended Weber State University graduating in1966 with an elementary teaching degree. After her family was raised, she received her master's degree from Weber State University in 1999. While attending Weber State she met her eternal sweetheart, Jeffrey Vernon East. Jeff and Marveda were married on August 5, 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple. They began married life and raised four children in a special place, which won her heart: Plain City, Utah. Marveda taught elementary school for 33 years for Weber School District at Hooper, Riverdale, Valley View, West Weber, and Plain City. She also taught three great years at Wasatch Elementary for Ogden School District. She treasured the friendships she made while teaching school. Third grade was her specialty and she loved to see students learn and become the best they could possibly be. She spent countless hours and paid special attention to having a classroom full of learning opportunities. Marveda is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Young Women's President, Counselor in Relief Society, and Ward and Primary Chorister. She taught in Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society and was a visiting teacher. She wanted everyone to know how much she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ and was humbled by His tender mercies. Her greatest joy came when she spent time with family. The time she spent with her grandchildren was some of her most treasured moments. She loved her garden and enjoyed sharing and carefully using every fruit and vegetable from it. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jeff; her beautiful children: Robert (Lori) East, Ogden; MaryLynn (Trent) Workman, Scottsdale, AZ; Kevin, Ogden; Jolene (Aaron) Clonts, Providence, UT and ten grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Kenlee, Allie, Cooper, Ashley, Wade, Reagan, Cade, and Camdyn. Marveda is also survived by her sisters, Raeona (Gary) Stokes, and Arlene (Curtis) May; brothers, Alan (Sharalyn) Maughan and Rex (Shauna) Maughan; father-in-law, Vernon East; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Kathie) East; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glenn Maughan; mother-in-law, Joyce East and her infant brother, Gary Paul Maughan. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Plain City 4th Ward Chapel, 4350 W 2336 N. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., from 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday, prior to the service at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Plain City Cemetery.
