Marvin Mears

–

Fresno, California

Ralph Marvin Mears passed away quietly, during a nap, Saturday the 29th of April just 6 days after his 89th birthday. He was born in Santa Monica, California to Ralph Ashley Mears and Elaine Hansen Mears on April 23rd, 1934. They called him Marvin.
Marvin loved education and spent his entire life constantly learning. He went to Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California. He attended El Camino College, the University of Southern California, and the University of California at Los Angeles. He didn't tell many people about UCLA. He always rooted for Trojan football.
Marvin had his first job at 14 cutting flowers and taking them to market in the early hours of the day. He lived at a time in Los Angeles when you could see nothing but flower fields from Inglewood to downtown. He started his career in the Executive Program at North American in El Segundo, California. He worked on the special projects team to develop and build both the X-15 and the B-70 Bomber. Important historical projects that he was always proud of. He owned and operated several companies, most recently Environmental Products & Technologies Corporation; A renewable energy development and manufacturing company where he pioneered new anaerobic digestion and other cutting-edge technologies and equipment.
The only hobby Marvin ever had was cars. He bought his first car when he was 14 and never turned back. He was a member of a car club, the Clockers, sponsored by the local police department. They drove and worked on cars all week and drag raced the weekends. He was the President of the Classic Car Club of Southern California for a few years and raised the kids bouncing around the spacious backseat of his Black 1936 V12 Lincoln Town Car.
Marvin dedicated his whole life to service. Active as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he spent the younger half of his life in mission presidencies. He spent 35 years serving in the Los Angeles and Fresno temples until his strength wouldn't permit it.
He leaves behind a wife, Janet, three children, and their spouses: Scott and Sharon Mears, Tracy and Mike Moniz, and Marla and Leonard Johnson; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandkids. He also leaves behind a very long list of friends, family, and special people in his life. The boys he ran with as a child he kept as brothers his entire life. He felt blessed and loved many, many people.
