Mary Carol Canfield Obituary (1935 - 2022)

Mary Carol Canfield, passed away from complications of dementia on November 18, 2022 in South Ogden, Utah. She has joined her parents, two brothers, and one granddaughter in heaven. Carol was a loving and involved parent, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all of them. Carol will be laid to rest at the North Ogden Cemetery. Carol is survived by her five children: Sharon, Scott (Joy), Connie (John), Susen (John), and Terri, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and brothers Joe (Linda), Ted (Marcell, Tom (Judy), and Rex (Janice). The blessing of an eternal family was always cherished by Carol. Carol grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah. The only daughter to her beloved parents, Thomas Ralph and Mary (Davis) Woodhouse; she was able to hold her own amongst six rambunctious brothers: Ralph Jr. (deceased), Allen (deceased), Ted, Joe, Rex, and Tom. These siblings had many adventures together. After graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1952, she attended Brigham Young University (BYU)- Provo Campus. While at BYU she was a member of the Cheerleading Squad and met Alan, a handsome football player, who became her sweetheart. Carol and former spouse Alan were married May 19, 1955, in Spanish Fork, Utah. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on December 10, 1964. Carol was a lifelong and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Carol had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that she shared with many throughout her life. She served in church positions that involved teaching children and young women. She served church missions including a proselyting mission to California and many service missions to Temple Square in Salt Lake City. While serving at Temple Square she had the opportunity to meet many church leaders. She also served as a worker in the Ogden, Utah Temple. Carol volunteered in other organizations throughout northern Utah, including the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City in 2002. Carol was an avid sports fan, especially basketball. She was a Utah Jazz and BYU fan, who knew her team's players and their stats. Carol was always active. Walking was a passion; she never missed a daily walk. She would often go with her beloved dog, Toby. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the White Barn Ladies League. She golfed throughout Utah and enjoyed her time and friendships in the league. She also enjoyed spending time at Bear Lake, Utah with her family. Carol was an independent, hardworking woman and an immaculate housekeeper. She worked for ZCMI, Desert Industries, and Snowbasin Ski Resort. She was a talented quilter and seamstress, making many outfits for her children. She could look at a dress, then return home and make it. She tailored many wedding dresses and clothing for others. Many of her children and grandchildren cherish quilts she made for them. Carol enjoyed gardening and pruning roses in her garden. Some of the roses originated from her mother's garden. Carol enjoyed traveling to visit family. Among some of her other favorite pastimes were oil painting, reading, puzzles, collecting spoons from her world travels, and eating a McDonald's hamburger with Pepsi. She has shared her talents of canning, sewing, quilting and painting with her children and grandchildren. Despite facing challenges and adversity, Carol always strived to offer her best. She loved cheering her grandchildren, sharing family history stories, looking at family photos with others and keeping her family updated on one another's accomplishments. Her example continues to motivate her family; that despite imperfection we each can accomplish great things. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bristol Hospice staff, especially Kami and Rachel, and the staff at Legacy House. Services will be Wednesday, November 23, 2022, 12 noon at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT, with a viewing prior from 10:30 - 11:40 a.m..
