Mary Ruth Boyd Hurst, 82, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 surround by her loving family. She was born February 28, 1936 in Norton, Kansas to Walter A. and Jennie Lockwood Boyd. She lived in Kansas until the first grade when her parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Wellsville, UT. After graduating from South Cache High School in 1954, Mary went to Scotia, CA to spend time with her older sister, Patricia Hill. While in California, she met and later married her sweetheart, Verden Hurst, on November 8, 1957. They were later sealed in the Oakland Temple. Mary lived in Eureka, California for the next 45 years, until shortly after Verden's death when she moved to Utah to live with her daughter.
Mary served faithfully in many church calls and had a strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always knew that her family would be eternal. She gained the most joy from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her son, John (Jeanette) Hurst; daughter, Jeanette (Brian) Squire; her step-sons, Daniel (Dianne) Hurst, Richard (Anne) Hurst; two nieces she helped raise after their parent's death, Kim (Bob-deceased) Geertsen, Jan (Ron) Wedmore. Also survived by her brother, Steven (Laura) Boyd; sister, Phyllis (Bruce-deceased) Fears; 13 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren and her sister-in-law Linda Boyd (Joseph-deceased).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Joseph (Linda) Boyd; sisters, Patricia Hill, Judith Fifield; brothers-in-law, Wes Hill, Jerry Fifield, Bruce Fears.
The family would like to thank the staff with Caregiver Support Network Hospice for the care and love shown to mother. Mom was always grateful for the love and support of her family. We have eternal gratitude for our Aunt Linda Boyd who took care of mom for so many years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Ogden Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. with a visitation prior from 9:15 to 10 a.m.
Interment at Wellsville City Cemetery.
