Brigham City - May Bowden Brown, 84, died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the home of her daughter Marilyn Goff in Roy, Utah. Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister has completed her earthly mission and returned to her Father in Heaven. May was born July 18, 1922 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. She was the tenth of twelve children born to Leslie William and Ester Drusilla Jenks Bowden. May has resided in Brigham City since the age of 14.
May married James Andrew Brown Jr. on April 19, 1941. They were sealed in the Logan Temple on Dec. 12, 1941, seven children were born to this union. She was a member of the Brigham City 13th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
May's love of God and Jesus Christ was her most important gift and calling as she served her many church callings and served her family. She truly had the Christ-like faith of a child, never wavering in the love of her Lord as she taught her children and grandchildren. May and her husband James served their mission calling in the Ogden Temple and were stake and ward missionaries.
May was employed at the Brigham City Bushnell Hospital during World War II, and was employed through the Box Elder School Lunch Program. May served as Historian for the Brigham Chapter of the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers.
May had a beautiful singing voice and played the guitar. Often on a Saturday morning she, her brother Jay Bowden, and sister, Verda Knavel could be heard over the radio in Brigham City. The three were invited to sing at many weddings and funerals. She also had a great love of nature and shared this with her family.
May is survived by four daughters; Lana (John) Peters, Plymouth; LaRae Brown Redocto, Riverdale; Diane (Ed) Dew, Layton; Marilyn (Garth) Goff, Roy; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister Dona Busenbark, Brigham City. She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant children, Patricia May and Frederick Bowden Brown; a daughter, Kathleen; granddaughter, Julia Marie; grandson, Jason; and a great-grandson; five brothers and five sisters.
