Mazie Barnett
OGDEN - Sixty-four years ago, on September 16, 1938, Mazie Donna Newey married J. Floyd Barnett in the Salt Lake Temple. She took his name, and his three small children as her own. His first wife had died. She promised to love him forever. They will be apart now for a time, but they will be together again.
Mazie left this life Sunday September 15, 2002, after a short battle with cancer. (She always believed if she was going to do something she wanted it done right away.)
She leaves behind so many who love her. Her husband, J. Floyd Barnett; children, Sharon Unruh, Keith and Zelda Barnett, Barbara Polson, Donna and Leo Stevenson, Connie and LeRoy Badger, Peggy and Vance Olney, and Kathy and John Ostberg; 40 grandchildren; and 78 great-grandchildren. (We hope the count is accurate since she adopted so many as her own.)
Mazie was preceded in death by her two sons-in-law, Ross Unruh and Glen Polson.
She was born January 10, 1915 in Huntsville, Utah. She was the daughter of John Alanson Newey and Hannah Charlotta Anderson. She was the seventh of eight children. She was the last of her family to leave this earth, preceded by David LeRoy Newey, Irene and Gilbert Wheelwright, Dale and Nellie Newey, Harold and LaVerna Newey, Jack and Genevieve Newey, Margene and Max Tolman, Victor and Phillis Newey.
She worked for J.C. Penney, Bon Marche, Fashion Fabrics and Singer Sewing Machine Company.
She had served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Young Women's President and positions in the Junior Sunday School and Primary. She was a Visiting Teacher for many years.
We express our sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff of the Washington House for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
