Melanee Schramm Kerns

Melanee Schramm Kerns, 44 passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008 at her home in Layton, Utah with her husband James F. Kerns, IV at her side.

The daughter of Clarence and Doris Schramm, Melanee was born in La Mirada, California. Melanee's early homes included San Gabriel, Pasadena, Sacramento and Fair Oaks, California before moving with her family to Fruit Heights, Utah in 1981. She graduated from Davis High School and received additional education at DATC, UVCC and Weber State University.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she graduated from both Seminary and Institute of Religion and served a full-time mission in the Connecticut Hartford Mission. Melanee married James in the Salt Lake Temple of March 5, 1988. They lived in several locations in Davis and Utah counties finally settling in their current home in Layton, Utah.

Melanee faced valiantly a host of physical problems including diabetes, muscular dystrophy, and finally a long bout with cancer. She faced the prospect of her death with faith, grace and patience. She was quick to love, forgive and make friends, was patient in the face of high discouragements. She taught and blessed all of us. We will miss her smile, but know she is smiling with many loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, parents, brother David Schramm, sister Meredith (Steve) Mannebach, five nephews and three nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel Hills Ward, 3290 North 1050 East, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may gather Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, and Wednesday morning at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Layton Memorial Park.
