Melanie Payne

–

SLC, Utah

Melanie Talbot Payne, 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Murray IHC Medical Center on March 7, 2023 after an extended battle with kidney failure.
She was born in Blackfoot, Bingham, Idaho on February 16, 1968, the last of seven children born to Alonzo Keith and Mable Taylor Talbot. There was a 17-year difference between the oldest, Gay and Melanie. The whole family was excited to welcome this new little sister and knew they would have a great time spoiling her, which they did!
When Melanie was about eighteen months old, the family moved to Utah. And she became an Aunt at two and half years old. By the time she was five, she had three nephews: Chris, Mark, and Jason and one niece, Mindy. The kids didn't call her Aunt Melanie due to the closeness in their ages, she was just "Melanie" or "Mel".
She attended school in North Ogden until the family moved to Roy where she finished her education and graduated from Roy High School. By this time, her mom had been diagnosed with cancer and was quite ill. Mel was only nineteen when her mother passed away. With all the other kids married or off to school it was just Melanie and her dad at home.
In the years that followed, it was a real comfort to her dad to have her there. Dad always said he knew why she had been born to them later in their lives. She was there to help him get through those lonely times after her mom was gone.
Mel wasn't quite sure what she wanted to do with her life and then decided serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be the best thing for her. Being a home body, it was a difficult decision for her to leave her home and Dad for eighteen month, but felt it was the right thing to do. She served an honorable mission in New Jersey.
When she returned, she attended Stevens-Henager College for a short time following the death of her dad. One day Melanie met Jeff Payne in the Ward they were both attending. After dating for a short time, they were married on November 1, 1996 in the Bountiful Temple. Jeff and Melanie worked side by side creating a comfortable life together. Although they were never blessed with children Melanie deeply loved her furry companions, Chewy and Gracie.
Melanie continued to work until her kidney disease progressed to a point she was unable to. Despite all the complications that hampered her health she remained cheerful and had complete faith in her Heavenly Father's plan for her.
Melanie was preceded in death by her mother, Mable and father, Keith and in-laws, Jerry and Carol Hartey.
Surviving are her husband, Jeff, sisters, Gayleen (Bruce) Lloyd of Blackfoot, ID; Marjorie Hill of Pocatello, ID; brothers, Hyrum (Sherrie) of West Haven, UT; Sheldon of Roy, UT; Kerry (Valorie) of Syracuse, UT; and Russell (Suzy) of Roy, UT, brothers-in-law, Kelly, Steve and Curtis (Deb) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 South Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 11:00 -12:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah.
