Merrill Allen Morrell Obituary (1924 - 2009)

Merrill Allen Morrell VERNAL - Merrill Allen Morrell, 84, died April 13, 2009, at Uintah Care Center, Vernal, UT, of causes incident to age. He was born July 10, 1924, in Roosevelt, UT to Hiette and Ruby Morrell. He was married to Francis Peterson in 1943. They were later divorced. On December 24, 1948, he married Gerald Dee McKinlay in Salt Lake City, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. During WWII, he served in the US Army as a medical orderly working with paraplegics. He spent many years as a heavy equipment operator working on the Union Pacific Railroad causeway at the Great Salt Lake, and the Libby Dam in Montana. In later years, he was a family counselor for the Ute Tribe and various mines in Price, UT. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various callings and spent much of his life serving others. Merrill enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with Jeri in temple worship. He is survived by one brother, Daughn Morrell of Salt Lake City, UT; two sisters, Laree (Albert) Miller, Pleasant View, UT, and Gwen Neugart, Salt Lake City, UT; three sons, Donald (Ann) Morrell, Louviers, CO, Michael (Sheron) Morrell, Layton, UT, and Troy (Jennifer) Morrell, Harrisville, UT; two daughters, Laurie (Michael) Marquis, Johnson City, TN and Angela Arnold, Vernal, UT; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. Viewings will be held at Myers Mortuary on Friday, April 17 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, April 18 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, UT, following the funeral services.
