Michael Alan Childs passed away April 8th, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 66. He was born in Bellflower, California on August 10th, 1955 to Robert "Bob" Childs and Margaret Mortenson Childs. He grew up in Southern California and graduated from Norco High School. After high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Houston, Texas. Mike graduated from Brigham Young University in 1982 and pursued a career in construction management.
Mike spent the majority of his adult life in Irvine California and Mesa Arizona. He was proud of his career and had an amazing work ethic, which he taught to his children. His professional life was spent working at Business Properties, Coastline Development, and Verizon Wireless overseeing real estate design and construction - primarily high-rise and retail buildings.
Mike had a passion for nature, photography, the ocean, and above all, his five grandchildren. He had a green thumb and could often be found outside, working in his yard. He was outgoing, finding lifelong friends in the unlikeliest of places. Mike was an accomplished woodworker, hand crafting many of the pieces of furniture his family went on to use for decades. He was an avid adventurer, exploring other countries, traveling in his RV, or cruising in his cars and motorcycles. He loved Disneyland and would visit any chance he could get. Mike was a passionate angler and loved going fishing with his children and grandchildren. The last year and a half of his life, he lived in Hyrum, Utah and enjoyed driving up Blacksmith Fork Canyon to take pictures and go fishing. Mike had a strong testimony of his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Even when not feeling well, he was often checking in on and visiting his neighbors, friends, family and members of his church congregation.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Aubrey (Curtis) Henrie, his two sons, Colin (Amanda) Childs, and Rhys (Natalia) Childs, his sisters Debbie (Roger) Foote and Sheri (Jim) Alvey, and his five beloved grandchildren, Grace, Ella, Violet, Beaudry and Brynnlee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, April 23rd at 7145 E Monterey Ave, Mesa, AZ 85208. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Hospital (Mike's favorite charity).
