Mickey Nelson
BRIGHAM CITY - Mickey Nelson, 87, was born to Harry and Josephine Ellestad in South Dakota. In 1946, she married the late Vernon Hanson and they had two daughters, Cheryl (Merrill) Greenhalgh (Holladay, UT) with granddaughter Jennifer (Kevin) Allen (SLC, UT) and younger daughter Sharon (Donald) Oakley (Annapolis, MD) who gave her two granddaughters Brittanie (Andrew) Stapleton (Annapolis, MD) and Lindsey (Spencer) Ford (Annapolis, MD). In 1959, they moved to Brigham City where they subsequently divorced.
In 1975, she married the late Robert Nelson and her family was extended to include the
late Don Nelson, Linda (Jerry - "Mickey's Genie") Nelson (Corinne, UT) and Debbie (Terry)
Brennan (Ogden, UT), nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and seven great-great- grandchildren.
Mickey's Music was established in 1959 where Mickey spent the majority of her time
mentoring hundreds of youngsters in the community. She was known for her active interest in
developing and improving community resources. Some of these ventures included the National
Beautification Recognition of Brigham City, helped establish and was a Charter Member of Holy
Cross Lutheran Church, recreation of the Bicentennial Driving of the Golden Spike and was
instrumental in the building of the Brigham City Senior Center. She was an influential member
of the following: Business and Professional Women, Soroptimist International Club, Eastern
Star, Intermountain Indian School Arts and Crafts Store, Shriner Circus, YWCA and responsible
for the window displays for Peach Day Celebration.
Mickey is remembered by her family and friends by her smile, laugh and of course her snort and symbolic "Uffda". Luckily Mickey kept these traits up until her final days with us. She
was very sharp, humorous, creative and intuitive. She spent her entire life helping others and
giving countless acts of kindness unconditionally. Mickey had a sincere love of her animals
especially her Poodles, yellow roses, traveling, playing cards with her girlfriends, watching the
Jazz and Real play and spending time with her family.
As a family, we would like to thank all of the staff whom cared for our Mom/Grandma at
St. Marks Hospital and Holladay Health Care. You all helped to put a smile on her face and we
know she did yours too!
