Mitsura Sootie Yamasaki Obituary (1918 - 2011)

Mitsuru "Sootie" Yamasaki Sootie passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2011. He was born May 19, 1918 in West Corinne to Kame and Saichi Yamasaki. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1936. Two of Sootie's happiest moments were meeting and marrying his wife, Ruby Toshiko Tanaka on November 14, 1942 and being the proud father of five children. He was an active member of the Corinne and Honeyville Buddhist Church. Sootie truly loved and enjoyed his family as he spent a great deal of time with them. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, teacher and friend; as well as an accomplished farmer. His crops were exceptional because of the abundance of knowledge he applied. Sootie's favorite pass times were golfing, fishing, bowling, dancing, hunting and traveling. He is survived by his son and three daughters: Sheldon, Logan; JoAnne (Jack, deceased) Adair, Denver, CO; Merlynne (Tom) Miya, Kaysville; and Geniel (Craig) Summers, South Ogden: nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Josh Yamasaki. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby, two brothers: Takeo and Hiro; one sister Jane Tsushima; and one son Dennis. Funeral services will be Friday, May 27, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 200 East Brigham City. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00- 11:30 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Isabelle and Susan with Comfort Keepers and Alpine Hospice for all their loving care. Dad, thank you for coping and finding the inner strength to continue on with your life to be with us after mom passed away. Your unselfish love, support, patience, advice and guidance gives us the strength to carry on. Dad, you're a survivor and a remarkable farmer. As your children, we are all very fortunate and proud to have had you as our father.
