Monan Anderson Lovell Obituary (1932 - 2014)

Monan Anderson Lovell WEST POINT - Monan Anderson Lovell, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at McKay Dee Hospital of pneumonia and heart failure. Monan was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He touched so many lives with his kind, compassionate, loving, sweet nature. There was never a gentler soul. The youngest of five boys, Monan was born February 4, 1932 in Oak City Utah to Norma Anderson and Owen Lovell. From his father, he learned a love of gardening. Monan always grew an amazing garden and he helped bottle everything in his garden. He took special pride in his fruit trees. Monan was married to Shirley Anderson for 20 years. Together they had 3 sons. They later divorced. Monan served 34 years in the US Air Force/Air Force Reserves as a flight engineer, traveling to 52 countries and logging a total of 18, 000 flight hours. He married Dorothy Pollard on September 12, 1974 in Elko Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden temple. Their combined family totaled 10 children. Monan lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed so many things. He was a great golfer and spent many happy hours on the golf courses. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. He loved the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers. He and his sons enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz. After retiring from Hill AFB, he and his wife became snowbirds, dividing their time between Pahrump Nevada and their beloved cabin in Sunridge Estates. Monan loved the outdoors, especially while at the cabin. Many hours were spent on the cabins' deck watching moose and deer come to his water trough. He fed countless hummingbirds and squirrels. He was a volunteer care keeper at Sunridge for 20 years. He took pride in his development of a large picnic area for Sunridge property owners. Monan was ever the gracious host. His sweet smile and 'sparkly' blue eyes warmed every heart. He made everyone feel welcome at every event. He and his wife offered their cabin for weekend getaways to all friends and family who wanted a piece of the great outdoors. For many years, Monan and his wife belonged to a dancing group called the 'Foxy Trotters'. They entertained in nursing homes, church socials and even street festivals. Monan was an avid candy maker. No one made peanut brittle better than he did. During Christmas holidays, he shared his candy making skills and candy with everyone. Grandkids looked forward to every Easter where 'Grandpa' brought his candy shooter and blasted candy 100 feet into the air. He enjoyed it as much as the grandkids. In 2005, Monan and Dorothy served a 19 month mission for the LDS Church in the Colorado Denver South mission. They also served an additional 5 years as temple workers in the Las Vegas and Ogden temples. Monan is survived by his wife, 2 sons - Russell Anderson (Paula) Lovell and Douglas Anderson Lovell. He is also survived by 7 step children - Debbie (Craig) Colledge , Denise (Allen) Bennett, Donna Pollard, Doug Pollard, DeAnne (Marco) Chavez, Darla Brennan, Drew (Debbie) Pollard, 24 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Ferrin (Donna) Lovell, Ralph Lovell and Elwood (Alice) Lovell. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Royce Monan Lovell, 1 brother, Leoyd Lovell. The family would like to extend grateful appreciation to the medical staff at McKay Dee Hospital and caregivers at Thatcher Brook for their professional, compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11 am at the West Point Lakeside Stake Center, 855 North 4000 West, West Point. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, March 16th at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton Utah.
