Myrl L Wells Obituary (1927 - 2012)

CORINNE, UTAH--Myrl Loen Wells, age 85, passed away on November 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 11, 1927 to Floyd and Maria Wells. He was the youngest of eight children. He grew up in Promontory, Utah. He attended Booth Valley School in Promontory and later went to Box Elder High School in Brigham City, Utah. Myrl served in the U.S. Army following World War II as part of the reconstruction of Japan. He was with the 43rd Engineer Construction Battalion in Honshu, Japan and served as a foreman of mechanics and construction equipment operator that built air strips and roads. He supervised the maintenance and repairs of all equipment. He was also responsible for assigning men to specific vehicles for their transportation to and from work. He received the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Army of Occupation Medal. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Patsy Hammerland Wells, for 64 years. They had three daughters and raised their family in Corinne, Utah. Myrl owned and operated two farms simultaneously; one located in Promontory, Utah and one in Soda Springs, Idaho. He grew barley and wheat and was known as a hard-working and successful farmer. He farmed for 46 years before retiring. He and his brother operated a car repair shop in Corinne for many years. He was also a builder and remodeler. He built several commercial buildings and homes in Corinne including the Corinne U.S. Post Office. He owned and managed several apartments in Brigham City and Ogden. Myrl enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved snowmobiling and taking his family to Island Park, Idaho on snowmobile trips. He and Patsy traveled extensively with their family and friends. They built a cabin in Star Valley, Wyoming and spent many summers there with their family. When Myrl retired from farming, he enjoyed working in his yard and caring for his cat. Myrl was musically talented and he played the clarinet and the keyboard. He is survived by his loving wife and three daughters, Beverly (Ron) Smith, Las Vegas, NV; Sandra (Don) Smith, Draper, UT, and Jolene (Tony) McBride, Louisville, KY; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Corinne LDS Chapel, 2325 N. 4000 W., Corinne, Utah. A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, Utah on Monday November 26, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday 12:00 to 12:40 p.m.at the Church. Interment will be at the Corinne Cemetery with military honors. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at McKay-Dee Hospital for all of the compassionate care they gave to Myrl in his final weeks.
