Myrna Lea Moulton
August 10, 1942 - May 24, 2024
Myrna Lea Moulton (81) made beautiful music. She died on May 24, 2024, as those who loved her gathered. She is missed and will be with every note we sing. Her death resulted from complications of aging. She was born in Driggs, Idaho, on August 10, 1942, as the third child (of 11) to Delmar and June Moulton.
Though hearing impaired from birth, music was her first language -- self-taught and fluent. She played the piano and organ with expressive skill and shared that gift in service throughout her life. She had a voice like the angels themselves and decades of choirs benefited from her leadership. But, her life of beauty was much more -- it was her essence. She had a natural artistic instinct for color and style which was most apparent in her natural beauty. She was also ever sensitive to the beauty around her and absorbed and responded to it. To be in her company during a scenic drive was to experience it all in a higher and more saturated version: "Oh my gosh -- would you look at that!".
Though never married, she had a network of family and friends who loved her. She moved as an infant with her family to Utah, then grew to adulthood, among an ever-larger family, and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in Ogden in 1960. She then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northern States Mission. She spent the majority of her adult life in the Salt Lake Valley, residing for many years in West Valley City as an active member of the Westlake Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served her ward in many capacities, including several callings as choir director, pianist, and organist. She also filled in the Sunday School, MIA, and Relief Society callings.
She also performed temple work and served as an organist at the Salt Lake Temple for a time. She trained and practiced early as a beautician before changing course to take a clerical position at Zions Bank. Soon she accepted a position with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at its Salt Lake City Headquarters as a senior payroll clerk, where she worked for 31 years until retiring in 2004.
But, let's be honest, she was also fun to tease, and we gave her more than her share. Yet, to her credit, she usually took it with a hardy laugh. She was a good sister. She made us a "musical family" and helped us see the world of beauty around us. Our lives are richer because she was among us.
Myrna was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet and Linda; her parents, Delmar and June; and two brothers-in-law, Patrick and Delton. Surviving are her six other sisters, her two brothers, and their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
