Nancy Ruth (Erickson) Tanner, affectionately known as "Grandma" by all, died peacefully on June 21, 2023, at her home in Ogden Utah, surrounded by family and close friends. She lived to a beautiful 93 years old. Nancy was born on April 12, 1930, in Spanish Fork, Utah and was one of seven children born to Matthew and Cilicia Erickson. Nancy graduated from Springville High School and then married Rex Tanner on November 3, 1948. Rex and Nancy spent several years living in California after marrying, and while living near Monterey, California, Nancy was contacted by Jehovah's Witnesses. After settling in Northern Utah, she began studying the Bible, and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1954. Rex also began studying, and he too progressed to the point of baptism.
Nancy spent many years as a full-time minister (pioneer), volunteering her time to help others learn about the Bible. She also treasured the privilege of working as a volunteer on many Kingdom Hall construction projects over the years. Nancy was an industrious homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, canning, crafting, and making her famous Nan's chocolate candies. Nancy had an impish sense of humor and enjoyed lighthearted joking with her friends and family. But she also had a strong sense of determination and an admirable stubbornness that made her resolute when it came to upholding scriptural principles.
Nancy maintained an unshakable faith in the Bible's promises and took great comfort in its assurance of a resurrection to life in an earthly paradise, where she looked forward to welcoming back Rex and their first two children, as well as other loved ones. (Revelation 21:3, 4).
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Rex, their two infant sons, Rex Jr. and Robert, grandson Christopher Tanner, and her siblings Fred, Cliff, Aaron, Cleo, Dorthella and Julie. She is survived by her son Stephen Tanner and daughters Connie Freitag and Dana McLeod as well as thirteen (13) grandchildren and twenty-four (24) great grandchildren.
