Nealy Wayne Adams Sr Obituary (1945 - 2013)

Nealy Wayne Adams, Sr. Nealy "Wayne" Adams, Sr. passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a battle with lung cancer. He was born on June 30, 1945 in Gooding, Idaho to Nealy Hampton and Eunice Lenora (Putnam) Adams. He graduated from George Washington High School Agana, Guam, in 1963 and from Weber State College in 1976. He married Sheila Sue Altom (Blanchard) in California in 1967; they were later divorced. He married Barbara Sue Miller (Adams) in Utah in 1971; they were later divorced although they stayed in contact. Wayne lived most of his adult life in Utah; he recently retired to Las Vegas where he enjoyed the hot weather, bingo, and no State income tax. Wayne served in the Navy from 1964 to 1968 and the Navy Reserves from that time until 1988. He spent most of 1966 aboard the USS Yorktown with the 7th fleet attached to the Anti-submarine Air Group Fifty-five. The USS Yorktown is retired as the centerpiece of Patriots Point in Charleston, South Carolina. Last Fall Wayne was able to visit there and take part in interviews for a documentary. While he was there he paid his respect to four fellow Servicemen that were lost while he served on the ship during Vietnam. Wayne was very proud to have served in the Navy and loved all of the travel it required. He was a long time proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Wayne worked in the Civil Service from 1974 until he retired in 1991. He started out as a Supply Clerk with Hill Air Force Base. He also held the titles of Aircraft Electrician, Production Control, Production Management Specialist, and retired from Los Angeles Air Force Base as a Logistics Management Specialist. Wayne loved to travel as a hobby as well as for work and the Navy. Anyone that knew him also knew that he loved it even more if it didn't cost him anything. He would wait for days to get where he wanted to go because he didn't mind waiting for Space 'A'. If he had to stay on a Base to wait for the plane that would take him on the next leg of his journey, even better. Meeting other servicemen was an added bonus on these stays. One of his favorite TV series was NCIS because he was able to catch glimpses of many of the Naval bases. He especially liked to see the ones he had been to. When he purchased his home in Las Vegas one of the requirements was that it had to be close to Nellis Air Force Base. He would sit outside and listen to all the noise created at the Base and love every minute of it. He found one excuse or another to visit the Base almost every day. Wayne is survived by his mother, Eunice; sister, Gladys Tjaden; brother, Don Adams; sister, Karen Guthrie (John); sister, Virginia 'Mae' MIlls (Phillip); brother, Anthony Adams (Debbie); sister, Doris Pangilinian (Greg); sister, Joanne Adams; sister, Vivian Kepford; daughter, Yarnell Aleman (George); daughter, Rhonda Archuleta (Kevin); daughter, Tamara Adams (Antonio); daughter, Darcy Kruitbosch (George); son, Nealy W. Adams Jr "JR" (Kimberly); many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Wayne was preceded in death by his father Nealy, brother Michael Adams and his wife Debbie, brother Raymond Adams, brother Nealy Ernest Adams and a grandson, Chad Aaron Adams. Although Wayne wasn't able to verbally communicate the last two weeks of his life he was certainly able to communicate in other ways. If he had any final words of advice they would have been that life is too short. Don't wait to tell the people you love that you love them. And last, but not least, money is not everything so live your life to the fullest. The family would like to give a special thanks to Promise Hospital and their exemplary staff. He was given wonderful, loving, and compassionate care while he was there. They also treated his children as part of their family and it made a world of difference during the final days with their dad.
