We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nichole Carrera, a cherished wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Nichole was born on June 5, 1978, in Layton, Utah, and continued to make Layton her home throughout her life. She was a smart, loving, resilient, and thoughtful woman who touched many lives in her 46 years.
Nichole's intelligence and hard work led her to a successful 17-year career with the IRS. She last worked as a Tax Examiner, a position she held with dedication and pride. This showed by successfully certifying on case analysis and responses, a reflection of her meticulous nature and commitment to her profession. Always one to strive for personal development, Nichole was also a proud graduate of Westminster, holding degrees in both Education and English. Her resilience was displayed prominently when she survived a five-hour tumor reduction surgery, a testament to her courage and determination.
Nichole was a vibrant soul who had a deep love for family, music, movies, and television. She was a loving great aunt to Joe and Brittany Liechty's children, and her pet cat, Pepper, held a special place in her heart despite their limited interactions. Nichole's love for music led her to see some of the world's most famous bands in concert, such as Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, and Depeche Mode. She was also an active member of the National Treasury Employees Union, demonstrating her thoughtful commitment to her colleagues and profession.
In the words of Robert Smith, "I've always spent more time with a smile on my face than not, but the thing is, I don't write about it." Also, "If you feel alienated from people around you, it's because no one tries to understand you." Lastly, "Everything I do has the tinge of the finite, of my own demise. At some point you either accept death or you just keep pushing it back as you get older and older. I've accepted it." She was a beacon of love and resilience who left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Nichole was preceded in death by her father, Joe R Carrera; and her Aunt, Mary Stephenson.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Roholt; her mother, Evelyn Carrera; mother-in-law, Joan R. Roholt; siblings, Anna Carrera-Dixon (Steven), Joe A Carrera, and Trino Carrera (Trinh); nieces and nephews, Noah Carrera, Leah Carrera, Joe Liechty (Brittany); and aunts, Ada Davis and Jean Martin, among other family members and friends.
