Nieves Solis Ramirez, Sr. Obituary (1924

Nieves Solis Ramirez was born on August 10th, 1924 to Jose Vallejo Ramirez and Gregoria Solis in Del Valle, Texas. He died on August 23rd, 2024 of natural causes at the age of 100 years and 13 days. He moved to Mexico at the age of 9 years old with his family. There he began the role of a ranch hand for his father. After high school, he attended the University of Nuevo Leon for one year. He had to return home due to the death of his father. A year later he joined the U.S. Army but was honorably discharged at the end of WW II. In 1954, he moved to Utah to stay with his sister and brother in law, Juan and Raquel Trujillo. Here he met and married the love of his life, Margarita Juanita Trujillo. Together they had Margie Ramirez, Lydia (Jeff) Cunningham, Barbara (Richard) Lewis, Nieves Salvador (Ann) Ramirez Jr., Alicia Gallegos, Luz (Mark) Riehlman, and Gail (Larry) Sirwaitis. In addition, he helped to raise four stepchildren, Dale (Georgia) Tejero, Ramona (Larry) Archuleta, Manuel Tejero, and Amelinda Tejero. He was a grandfather to their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was especially close to his sister's daughter, Rose (Charlie) White. Nieves left a legacy of 133 direct descendants which includes 7 children, 30 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren. He worked 11 years with the Union Pacific and retired after 24 years with the Defense Depot of Ogden. He learned to operate a computer in the latter years of work and was quite skilled in mathematics. He was a devoted family man and beloved by many. His hobbies included horseback riding, camping, hunting, gardening, dancing, raising farm animals as pets, but his favorite was fishing in which he participated the week before his death. Special gratitude to Intermountain Hospice (Sunny, Kelly, Jody, Lauren, Vada, and Teisha) for their outstanding (gentle) care this past year. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Interment will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Layton Memorial Park, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Margarita.
