NORA ATHALIE HOWELL ALLEN

BRIGHAM CITY- Nora Athalie Howell Allen, age 80, died March 6, 2001 with her oldest son David Mark Allen in a traffic accident outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

Athalie was born April 25, 1920 in Lincoln, Idaho. She was a daughter of Charles R. and Verna Hansen Howell. She was raised and educated primarily in Hyde Park, Utah.
She married David Ethan Allen on December 23, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple.
They made their home in American Fork, Utah and later in Brigham City.

Athalie was very talented musically; she played the piano and organ throughout her life for various religious and social occasions from the time she was a teenager. She was always grateful to her step-father, Jack Matkin, for supporting her in this by paying for her piano lessons.

Wildlife and flowers particularly delighted Athalie. She enjoyed the many flowers in her yard in Brigham City and likewise the contrasting desert plant life of her home in Yuma, Arizona where she spent many winters.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, and getting together with friends and family for, "a laughing good time."

Athalie was a member of the Brigham City 5th Ward the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by her children Robert Bruce (Janice) Allen; Dr. Michael E. (Julie) Allen; Athalie (Milt) Maughan; and daughters-in-law, Ione Harper Allen and Laurie Briggs Allen. Other survivors include 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Jack Matkin, Wade (Faye) Howell, Doyle (Naudine) Howell, and sister Shirley May.

Athalie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; sons, David Mark and Brent; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
