Norma Ford Leavitt, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026. She was 95 years old.
Norma was born in Centerville, Utah on August 3, 1931, to Thomas Ford and Hazel Wood. She attended schools in Davis County, graduating from Davis High. Shortly after graduation, she began her dedicated career of government service, beginning at Hill Air Force Base and then moving to IRS where she worked in Personnel Management until her retirement. In 1954, she married Richard Leavitt in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they spent the next 61 years building a life centered on faith, love, service, and family.
Norma was a life-long, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions throughout her life, including primary, mutual, and Relief Society. She always served with her whole heart and magnified her callings with love and dedication to others and the Savior.
Norma was a strong woman who always gave 100% to work, play, and family. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, music, sewing, quilting, crocheting, crafts, and many other hobbies. Norma enjoyed sharing her creations with others, but more than that, she loved to spend time teaching and helping them to discover and develop their own talents and gifts.
She was a passionate sports fan. She played softball and skied and loved to watch anything sports related. If the TV was on, it was turned into one sport or another. We often joked that ironically, even her initials were NFL. She always said there was nothing worth watching on TV except a game.
Family was at the heart of Norma’s life. She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings and dear friends. There was nothing more important to her than spending time together traveling, laughing, celebrating, and building lasting, eternal relationships with each of them. Even her final days were spent with family and friends as they came to say their earthly goodbyes. Time and time again we heard what a good, kind lady she always was
Norma is survived by her two children; her son, Rick (Jolene) and her daughter, Leisa. Eight grandchildren: Tiffany (Aaron) Mizell, David (Hailey) Leavitt, Steven Reichard, Rebecca (Anthony) Graham, Trevor (Wendy) Leavitt, Matthew Reichard, Jordan (Jessica) Reichard, Taylor Reichard. Twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by two sisters, NaDean Steffen and Elizabeth Hess. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son-in-law, Harold; parents, Thomas and Hazel; brother, Ray; six half-sisters: Alta, Leah, Luella, Erma, Bertha, and Jeanette; five brothers-in-law: Richard, Horton, Wells, Grant, and Lee; and three sisters-in-law: Maxine, Delora, and Colleen.
