Norma Cynthia Pratt Obituary (1921 - 2014)

Norma Cynthia Pratt Ogden - Norma C. Pratt arrived in this world on October 8, 1921, the daughter of Jay Charles Pratt and Mary Teresa Burke. She was the sixth and final child of the family. The Last Leaf on the Tree, Norma returned home to join her family Sunday, February 23, 2014, graduating from this life with honors. Norma joined the Ursuline Catholic religious order when she was very young, an order devoted to a deep prayer life and the education of young women. Norma had such a rich educational background that she could teach almost any subject needed, from advanced math and chemistry to foreign languages. After teaching in Sanford, ME, Boston and Dedam, MA, and New York City, she found her way to Ogden, UT, where she blessed the lives of students at South Ogden Jr. High, Bonneville High School, and the University of Utah. Norma cared for her students and expected their very best in the classroom. From her they learned what it is to be truly educated. This outstanding teacher was frequently recognized and honored by students and colleagues alike. Those awards included those of Teacher of the Year by the BHS Honor Society, Most Influential Teacher by former BHS students attending WSU and Teacher of the Year by the Utah Association of Foreign Language Teachers. After retiring from education, Norma served as a volunteer at what is now Ogden Regional Medical Center where she worked with Pastoral Care, assisting Sister Stephanie Mongeon for more than 20 years. Having a great appreciation of God's creations, Norma loved hiking, camping, four wheeling, cross country skiing, and traveling. She also loved the arts. This beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend and teacher blessed the lives of all those who had the privilege to associate with her. She leaves behind a legacy of spirituality, kindness, generosity, and wisdom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Mary; her siblings, Phillip Pratt, Teresa Fetterer (Gus), both of NYC, Eva Downing (Howard) of Maryland, Jay Pratt (Mary) of New Jersey and Evelyn Pratt of St. Hyacinthe, Canada; also by a niece, Eleanor Downing. Norma is survived by several accomplished nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; member of her Utah family who love her dearly and by loyal friends, from coast to coast. A Funeral Mass in Norma's honor will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 So., South Ogden, Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 25th at the church, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. In lieu of flowers, Norma would prefer donations to her parish, the Holy Family Catholic Church.
