Oliver Scovel Jr., (90) passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018, at home in North Ogden, UT, with family at his side. He suffered cardiac failure, due to lingering effects of pneumonia.

He was born on his family's ranch in Hilliard, Wyoming on July 6, 1928, the third child of four, to Oliver Llewelyn and Violet Brown Scovel. He grew up in Caliente, NV, Milford and Ogden, UT, where he enjoyed outdoor activities and sports. He told great stories, fondly recalling summers spent with family on Hilliard Flats in Wyoming. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Army a year later and served during the Korean War as a cartographer in Tokyo. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Oliver married Barbara Jean Tomney, August 11, 1950, in Ogden Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, where their family was sealed together. They cherished each other and were fortunate to celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary the day before his death. He worked for the State of Utah Department of Agriculture, as a poultry and egg inspector and grader at Ogden Poultry and Salt Lake Egg Co.

Oliver was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a diligent home teacher and magnified callings extended to him. He especially enjoyed serving with his wife as a greeter, welcoming and interacting with people.

Oliver was a voracious reader. He loved history. He was a talented gardener, raising amazing vegetables, including tomatoes, which were enjoyed by family and neighbors. Above all, Oliver loved his wife and family. They were his treasure. Oliver was kind, compassionate and had a unique ability to make everyone feel better after talking with him.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Barbara, his siblings Louise Hall and Herb Scovel, and his four children, Robert (Jill) Scovel, Dani (Kim) Watson, Mark (JoAnn) Scovel, and Matthew (Jennifer) Scovel. He also has 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. His sister, Mabel Moulding, preceded him in death.
