Omalea Gwen Mccormick Obituary (1930 - 2003)

OMALEA GWEN MCCORMICK CLINTON - Omalea Gwen McCormick passed away in her sleep while at home January 12, 2003. She was born January 17, 1930 in Hayes County, Nebraska, the daughter of Delbert L. and Ilah M. Fornoff. Omalea grew up on the family farm and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse to grade 8, she then moved into town to complete her high school. Omalea went to McCook Junior College where she received her teaching certificate. Omalea worked as a DJ for a McCook, Nebraska Radio Station for a short time. She taught school for grades 1-8 in several one-room schoolhouses for the Hayes County School District #25 for three years. She met and married Jack Leigh Boyd December 8, 1949 at the Methodist Church in McCook, Nebraska. Together they had Terry Lee, Daniel Duane, Connie Ann, James Michael Boyd. They were later divorced. Omalea was the Society Editor for the Farmington, New Mexico Times Daily, The Moab Gazette in Moab, Utah, The Post Register in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She then worked as a secretary for the Argon Nuclear Reservation outside of Idaho Falls, Idaho where she met and married Terrel D. McCormick April 12, 1972 in Elko, Nevada. Soon after marrying, Terrel got orders to go to Panama. While stationed in Panama, Omalea worked for The Department of Customs on the Canal. They lived in Panama for seven years. They were transferred to Hill Air Force Base in 1978, where she was a Logistics Specialist for many years. Terrel passed away on October 7, 1986. While working at Hill, Omalea met a very loving and gentle companion Deloy Lafe Ward. They traveled the world together during their retirement years. They also were together through their illnesses and were lovingly cared for by their daughters; Connie Robertson, Connie Henthorn and son Lewis D'Amico. The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind and loving care, that all of The Heritage Hospice employees gave to both Omalea and Deloy. A Special Thank-You to Josh Anderson CNA. Omalea is survived by her children: Dan Boyd, Jim and Liz Boyd, Connie Henthorn, Lewis D'Amico, Charles Henthorn, Connie Robertson, Steven Ward, four grandchildren, Tim Boyd, Roger Henthorn, Garette Neal, Zach Mendlekow, one great-granddaughter Jessica Boyd; sisters, Fauneil (Verl) Glee, Jeri Shupe (Chris), Joycelyn Bowman Besser, Anna Sterling Hart, one brother, Phillip Fornoff (Marylyn), many nieces and nephews, first husband L. Boyd. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, parents and one son, Terry L. Boyd and her dear companion Deloy Lafe Ward. All of whom she loved very much. Omalea wanted to have this poem quoted here - "I'M FREE" Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me, I took his hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void. Then fill it with remembered joy, a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief: Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Life up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now, he set me free.
